Relaţiile romantice la locul de muncă
subiect de discuţie şi cercetare psihologică
Keywords:
workplace romance, professional relationships, conceptual model of power dynamicsAbstract
Given a series of social and cultural tendencies (e.g., the increase in the amount of time employees spend at work), the workplace becomes for many people the proper environment for consuming lots of social experiences, including the one of finding a romantic partner.
Many researchers recognize workplace romance as an irresistible topic of discussion and gossip at work.
The present article describes the main arguments for approaching workplace romance as a special category of romance influencing the actors involved (third-party approach), their behavior at work and the professional relationships among group members.Consecutively, the relevant contributions made by scholars in this research area, and the author's reflections on the studies conducted in Romanian organizations are presented.
The conceptual model of power dynamics (Mainiero, 1986) is described in order to explain peer's reactions to the romantic couple at work. The management is analyzed both as a part involved in the workplace romance (the hierarchical workplace romance), and as a decision factor (the options for intervention when the office romance becomes disruptive for the workgroup).
