Diagnoza multidimensională a stresului ocupaţional la manageri

The study of occupational stress is hindered by the lack of compact and comprehensive standardized measurement instruments. The Pressure Management Indicator (PMI) is a 120-item self-report questionnaire developed from the Occupational Stress Indicator (OSI) and offers an integrated diagnosis/measure of the following major dimensions of occupational stress: the stressor scales (pressure from workload, relationships, career development, managerial responsibility, personal responsibility, home demands and daily hassles), the moderator variables (drive, impatience, control, personal influence and the coping strategies of problem focus, life-work balance, social support) and the outcome scales (covering job satisfaction, organizational satisfaction, organizational security, organizational commitment, anxiety-depression/ state of mind, resilience, worry, physical symptoms and exhaustion). The PMI is shorter than the OSI, it proves to be more comprehensive, more reliable and could be used with other organizational diagnosis tools. The Romanian version of the PMI, translated and adapted by the author - with permission by Dr. Stephen Williams - was used in a larger study among different professions (N=939 romanian respondents).
In the present research, using a comprehensive model of occupational stress - the relationship between stressors, effects and some personality dimensions and coping mechanisms is studied, focusing on top-managers. Some preliminary results are presented and intervention strategies (profilaxy, control and management) in occupational stress are proposed.
