Abstract

The development of a new psychological test or adapting some existents psychological instruments are processes that involves several steps. The failure to comply the entire development cycle of a psychological test exert immediate effects on all forms of validity of the instrument. The measurement in psychology takes specific issues, those related to the construct measurement being the most sensitive because of the indirect nature and the strong subjectivity characteristics. For this reason, especially in the development of a new test, the focus on a good construct operationalization is essential as a stage in the construct validity study. This process, called “construct map definition, are implemented in the creation of a new test process, but is often overlooked in practice. We will attempt to define the role and place of the construct map in the approach of developing psychological tests and the presentation of some useful techniques for this task.
